Sahara days & nights

Desert experience in Merzouga

A stay at Grand Dune is about more than a comfortable tent. It is about the rhythm of the desert — the slow walk of camels, light moving across the dunes and evenings that end in a sky full of stars.

Sunset & sunrise

Golden light on the dunes

The Erg Chebbi dunes change colour with every hour of the day. In the late afternoon the sand turns amber, rose and deep red as the sun drops behind the horizon — the moment the whole camp gathers on the high dunes in silence.

Those who wake early are rewarded with the opposite miracle: the sun rising over the dunes, painting the desert in soft pink light before the day grows warm. Both are part of the Grand Dune rhythm, and both are easily reached from camp.

Camel rides

Cross the dunes the traditional way

A camel ride into Erg Chebbi is the classic Sahara experience — slow, swaying and strangely meditative as the dunes rise around you. Watch the desert turn from gold to rose as the sun moves across the horizon.

Camel rides are arranged around your stay — mention them when you book and we will confirm the details.

Desert walks

Follow the ridgelines on foot

Walks in the dunes are just as rewarding as camel rides. Follow the high ridgelines with a local guide, leave footprints in untouched sand and feel how quiet the desert can be. From camp, the dunes are only a short walk away.

Guided walks and treks can be arranged and confirmed with you before or during your stay.

Dinner & hospitality

Moroccan food, shared under the sky

Evenings at Grand Dune revolve around the table. Dinner is a traditional Moroccan affair — tagines and dishes prepared with care and served in generous portions — followed by sweet mint tea, the ritual that welcomes every guest to the desert.

When the fire is lit, the evening often finds its own rhythm: quiet conversation, the warmth of the flames, and sometimes traditional Berber and Amazigh music drifting across the sand. Every evening is different, and the camp keeps it unhurried.

Meals and evening arrangements are confirmed when you book your stay.

Stargazing

A sky without limits

The desert offers a peaceful environment for looking at the night sky. Far from city lights, the Milky Way stretches from one horizon to the other — simply step outside your tent, lie back on the sand and look up.
